Meet the Counsellor

April is a compassionate, trauma informed Counsellor who brings warmth and understanding to the therapeutic process and creates safe spaces for healing and self-exploration.

With a passion for helping others, April began her career with qualifications in Community Services and Children’s Services, gaining experience across the community sector in a variety of roles within child, youth and family settings.

After many years of experience, April went on to achieve her Bachelor of Counselling in 2017, shaping her elective studies around her interest in developmental psychology and counselling children and families. Following completion of her degree, April began working in the child protection and domestic and family violence spaces- where her skills connecting with people in crisis and supporting them through some of their most traumatic experiences, allowed her significant insight into complex family and relationship dynamics and a non-judgmental approach to all people, regardless of their backgrounds and experiences.

In 2023 April joined ‘The Survivor Hub’ team by partnering with a local Sexual Assault Advocate, to bring the first trauma informed, peer lead support group for people who have experienced sexual assault to the Central Coast. This experience, paired with her employment in roles providing counselling to survivors of domestic, family and sexual violence has continued to expand April’s skillset and enthusiasm for trauma informed care.

In her career as a mental health practitioner, April has sought further training and education to provide inclusive services that are safe, welcoming and supportive for members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

After working within the community and private sectors providing counselling, April developed ‘Progressive Counselling’ with the goal of creating an experience for her clients that was welcoming, trauma informed and inclusive from start to finish.

Alongside her work in the therapy room, April has been approached by local, national and international organisations to provide training, education, recommendations and support, to teams and leadership groups around topics including; Body Safety & Consent for Kids, Understanding Burnout & Vicarious Trauma, Supporting Survivors of Sexual Violence, Online Safety for Young People, Perinatal Mental Health and more!

I can’t wait to meet you and am honoured by each person who has allowed me space in their lives, shared with me their vulnerabilities, their most challenging and painful experiences and put their trust in me as part of their healing journey.
